Smoky Mountains Songwriters Festival, Charly Markwart, Songwriter, SMSWF, Gatlinburg, TNCharly Markwart was born and raised in rural Michigan. When it came time for her to pursue her musical journey, she chose to leave her home state for several years to locate to the mountains of southern Appalachia. That move enabled Charly to trace the true roots of America’s music and ingrain those roots into her musical foundation.

As she began to forge her own path as a singer/songwriter, Charly stayed true to those traditional roots. Inspired by the influence of pioneers like the Carter Family, she came to believe it was authentic thoughts portrayed from the heart that mattered most in her music. Her ability to paint those thoughts into words the listener can relate to is her biggest strength as a songwriter.

Charly has performed on the stage of Virginia’s legendary Carter Family Fold with A.P. Carter’s grandson, Dale Jett, and opened for Larry Sparks & the Lonesome Ramblers. Today, she is back in Michigan, where her new music proudly honors the tradition she learned in Appalachia, while also being infused with her own unique songwriting style and originality. The result is an acoustic Americana blend that comes straight from the heart.
