Smoky Mountains Songwriters Fesrival, Matt Marsh, Songwriter, SMSWF, Gatlinburg, TNThere’s a little spot in Idaho where state highways meet, where the river runs underground, where crossroads cross canyons and bridges span the distance. It’s tucked in a high desert valley we call magic, nestled in the Rocky Mountains, somewhere between the Tetons and the Sawtooth, there on the edge of Snake River canyon is where I call home.

I’ve had lots of homes, from trailer parks to parsonages, from motels to executive suites, brick, wood, concrete, tin and stone. I’ve lived in most of the western states, spent ten years in the ministry in Arkansas, Colorado, and Louisiana, and moved my family back to Idaho about ten years ago.

I’m blessed to live in such a place, and my family is proud to call Idaho home. I married a little red haired farmers daughter almost twenty five years ago. We’ve had four daughters, two grand children and house full of crazy!

I’ve been writing for about seven years, never got good at the guitar, there’s always too many words in the way. I’ve spent those years trying to hone my skill as a wordsmith, drawing from personal experience and finding inspiration in real life situations. Many of my songs are truth, paired with simple chords and deep feeling, with gentle storytelling blended in for good measure. Some are true, some aren’t, but all of them come from the same place, that little spot, just a mile or so from the Snake River.

I’d love to sing you a story!
