Smoky Mountains Songwriters Festival, Martin Koop, Songwriter, SMSWF, Gatlinburg TNStorytelling songwriter Martin Koop was born in the rustbelt cornfields of Northwest Ohio, raised in the back alleys of 6th Street in Austin Texas, and fed on Nashville twang, Delta blues, along with John Steinbeck & John Prine. Koop’s songs dive headlong into the verities and balderdash of the human condition, offering up his own inimitable take on the American folk song, with groove and grit. Now emerging as a nationally touring Americana artist, Koop’s relentless pursuit of well-crafted lyrics combined with captivating live shows that engage audiences have earned him loyal fans in the nooks and crannies of the Americana music scene. His newly released “Up Close” CD, featuring fourteen gritty, groovy, original songs, was recently selected by John Godfrey’s Radio Troubadour as a best new release of 2018. Koop serves as a regional coordinator for NSAI, and he is also member of Folk Alliance International and The Americana Music Association.
