Jamie Nelson

Smoky Mountains Songwriters Festival, Songwriter, Jamie Nelson, SMSWF Stage Spot, Gatlinburg, TNGrowing up playing classical piano and writing music since the age of 5, songwriting and a strong passion for it has been no stranger in Jaime Nelson’s life. Modeling her initial attempts after her first idol, Amy Grant, she has since branched out and now finds inspiration anywhere from Ingrid Michaelson to Miranda Lambert. Growing up, Jamie sang and performed regularly in both her church and school, and then continued on to lead worship on the piano at her college Christian group, InterVarsity. Several years after graduating with a degree in Business Finance from UConn, at the age of 25, she had saved up enough money and courage to move to Nashville to fully pursue a songwriting career. While in Nashville, she also took up and began to learn the local instrument of choice, guitar. Jamie has made some great connections and soaked up as much advice as possible to improve her songwriting skills.  In 2014, she was proud to be a top 10 Listener’s Choice Award Finalist in the NSAI Song of the Year competition.  Currently, to pay the bills you can find her doing bookkeeping for a local music venue or bartending at a steakhouse.  She writes as often as she can both with others and by herself, and attends and plays writers’ nights often, finding inspiration in others’ music as much as she can.
