Douglas Smith

Doug Smith Bio PicSinger-Songwriter Douglas Smith knows his way around a guitar.  Born in middle Georgia into a family with deep musical roots, he doesn’t remember a time before he had a guitar in his hand and a song in his heart.  He entered his first songwriting competition at age 10 and held the distinction of being one of the top rhythm guitar players in the state of Georgia for many years, beginning at the young age of 13.
Doug played guitar and sang in his Father’s bluegrass band for many years before forming his own band and hitting the road – performing at numerous festivals, fairs and events and he hasn’t slowed down!    Writing and performing are part of the very fabric of who Doug Smith is and he continues to play and to write music that is timeless and contagious.   Whether a hard-driving bluegrass number or a song which reflects his faith in God, his rich baritone voice draws you in like a warm sweater on a cold night and it is evident that music is not only his passion, but his gift.
In the 90s Doug moved to Nashville where he has become a favorite at the Bluebird Cafe Writers’ Nights where he has been invited to perform many of his songs.  Doug’s gospel song “He’ll Lead You Home”,  co-written with his friend Wesley Probst, was recorded by David Parmley and Continental Divide, who also later recorded two of his bluegrass songs, “Lost Love” and “She’s Lying (in the Cold Cold Ground).”
